LA Times Columnist Steve Lopez is advocating for MacArthur Park again in 2025 after publishing several columns in 2024 on crime, drugs and street lighting in MacArthur Park. His concern piece notes that Mayor Bass is trying to address violent crime with a surge in LAPD and fences that also are eliminating street vendors on a section of Alvarado. The action was precipitated by a gang related shooting on January 22.
