MacArthur Park and downtownThe LA Local reported on what is known about the proposed Macarthur Park fence on August 31, 2026. It seems that the Department of Recreation and Parks approached the Cultural Heritage Commission to tell them about the fence which caught the heritage the Cultural Heritage Commission off guard, commenting that they were being brought in a bit late on the process. They were not sure they thought the fence would be beneficial with respect to the cultural heritage aspects and raised concerns about the height of the fence. At this point it is unknown whether the fence will be permanent or be removed at some point, how high it is or what color it will be.

Recreation and Parks has allocated $2.3 million for the fence with construction plan to begin Fall of 2026. Once the fence is completed the park can be closed at night and reopen each morning.

Recreation and Parks is due to provide an update at our September 2, 2026 Meeting.
