From Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez:
MacArthur Park is having a moment — and if Justin Bieber stopping by is any indication, people are noticing! But the progress we’re seeing today didn’t happen overnight. For nearly four years, our office has been investing in MacArthur Park and the people who call it home with more than $27 million in care-first investments that are making the park cleaner, safer, healthier, and more vibrant.
That means Peace Ambassadors on the ground around the clock, daily Clean Teams, overdose response and street medicine, youth programming, arts and culture, new lighting, and major investments in the park’s infrastructure. And there’s even more on the way, including expanded street medicine, a new health hub, year-round free programming at the bandshell, and a $40 million stormwater capture project to restore the lake and improve the surrounding park.
And while our Clean Teams are out there every single day, keeping MacArthur Park clean is something the whole community can take pride in. This month, we teamed up with Metro Mami, Hondurans in LA, and Hike & Hang for a femme-led community cleanup, starting with a little stretching and ending with neighbors rolling up their sleeves together for the park we all share.
